UNIT II

The Divided Mind of the Black Church (part 2)

This is the second part (starts at minute 23:09) of Reverend Raphael Warnock's lecture, "The Divided Mind of the Black Church: Theology, Piety, and Public Witness." In this part of the lecture, Reverend Warnock analyzes four "moments" in the relationship between black theology and the black church.

As you watch this second part, think about the following:

  • Which moment in the relationship between black theology and the black church do you think is most important? Why?

  • How familiar were you with black theology before starting this competency with Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary?

  • How would you describe the relationship between black theology and your specific church context?
