Reading the Bible in Public

There is no denying the role of the Bible in the public sphere in American culture. Whether it's the presence of the Ten Commandments in courtrooms or the reference to a biblical passage in a campaign speech, the Bible is a public book, at least in America. In this short article, New Testament professor Eric Barreto asks, "How do we read the Bible in public? And how do we do so well?"

What is wrong with how many of us read the Bible "in public"?
What does it take to read the Bible faithfully?
Why has Christianity always been political?
