About
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the critical interpretation of Old Testament texts with an emphasis on social justice and historical context. Students will learn systematic methods for analyzing Hebrew scripture, including historical-critical, literary, and socio-economic approaches. The curriculum focuses on how these ancient narratives address themes of equity, compassion, and liberation, particularly within the tradition of Black faith communities. By applying exegetical tools to specific prophetic and pentateuchal passages, participants will develop the skills to interpret sacred texts in ways that inform contemporary justice efforts and communal healing.
