Foundations of Modern Nationalism in the Middle East (1876–1918)

About

This training program examines the ideological shift from imperial structures to modern nation-states during the final decades of the Ottoman Empire. You will explore the impact of the Tanzimat reforms, the rise of ethnic nationalism in the Balkans, and the revolutionary movements that reshaped the Middle East. The curriculum analyzes how the pressures of World War I accelerated the collapse of the caliphate and laid the groundwork for contemporary national identities. By studying these historical turning points, learners will gain a better understanding of the roots of modern geopolitical boundaries and social movements that define the region today.
