What Is Liberation Theology?

About

This course provides a technical overview of Liberation Theology, focusing on its historical development and core proponents. It examines the foundational Latin American work of Gustavo Gutierrez and the emergence of Black Liberation Theology through the scholarship of James Cone. The curriculum specifically addresses the intersections of faith and social justice, including extensive modules on Womanist and Mujerista perspectives from scholars such as Delores Williams and Ada Maria Isasi-Diaz. Participants will analyze how these theological frameworks interpret scripture through the lens of the oppressed to address systemic poverty and racial injustice.
