This course examines the current landscape of Christian worship in the United States, evaluating its strengths and weaknesses through a theological and sociological lens. Students will analyze trends in liturgical music, the theological underpinnings of modern worship models, and the degree of authentic inclusion within diverse congregations. The curriculum specifically addresses how worship practices align with or hinder a mission of justice and community service, drawing on the historical insights of the Black Church tradition to provide a critical framework for evaluation. Participants will gain the tools to critique contemporary styles and advocate for worship that embodies sacred wisdom and social compassion.
