The Origins and Evolution of Human Language

This course examines the complex history of human communication, from biological foundations to the development of structured grammar. We explore the transition from primal vocalizations to complex symbolic systems, analyzing the cognitive and social factors that enabled this transition. The curriculum covers major theories in linguistics and paleoanthropology, investigating how language shaped human society and shared meaning. Participants will study the anatomical changes necessary for speech and the theoretical frameworks used to trace the growth of diverse language families across the globe.
